“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)
How would you describe yourself? Grab a pen and take a moment to write down a few adjectives. Your list may include words such as:
While these are beautiful qualities, have you ever described yourself as weak? WEAK?!
I can see you cringing. Most women do not want to be called weak. It is an insult. We want to be seen as strong individuals, who are confident and capable of handling whatever comes our way. Our culture affirms the strong woman stereotype and we are led to believe that we should always exude strength.
Thankfully, the standards of this world are not God’s. As His daughters, it is okay for us to be weak. No one is purely strong. There are areas of our lives where God has blessed us with the ability to thrive. Similarly, there are also areas where God has purposely allowed us to struggle. God does this to build our dependence on Him and prevent us from making idols of ourselves.
In our weakness, we are unable to bear the weight of our God-given assignments. Assignments as wives, mothers, friends, career women, and more. Weakness causes us to either give up or persevere in our own strength. Both options leave us frustrated, exhausted, and guilt-stricken because human strength can only take us so far. God never intended for weakness to render us defeated. Instead, He desires an exchange to take place – our weaknesses for His strength. Read this scripture with me:
“And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)
As believers of Jesus Christ, we have access to God’s perfect strength! His strength is full of grace therefore lacking nothing. Human strength cannot measure up to The Lord’s, so why not place our faith in Him and make the exchange? Here’s how:
- Confess your insecurities, temptations, and fears to God. Admit that you are not capable of completing the assignment before you.
- Pray and ask God to perfect His strength through your weakness.
Often step-by-step, God provides you with divine instruction on how to be successful in spite of your weakness. He supernaturally equips you with the creativity and ambition to complete your assignment. You will know it is God!
Pray this prayer with me: Father, I need you! I struggle with ______. I cannot complete this assignment with my own strength. I acknowledge that your grace is sufficient for me. Lord, please perfect your strength through my weakness. I submit to Your will for my life. Wherever you lead, I will follow. God, I glorify You for what You are getting ready to do through me. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
Weak women find their strength in God!
