The Freedom To Create

“But what does Scripture say? ‘Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.'” – Galatians 4:30, NIV

God has blessed women with the gift of creativity. We create everything from breathtaking art and life changing engineering technologies to beautiful children and nurturing environments. Society may favor certain gifts over others, but God has a plan for them all. It is our responsibility to use what we create to glorify God.

We are also blessed with the freedom to create. Jesus’ sacrifice on cavalry allows us to live in God’s purpose for our lives. When we walk in freedom, there is literally nothing that can stop us from fulfilling our calling – no trial of life or attack from the enemy. It is only when we seek to satisfy our own desires or please others that we create in bondage.

In Galatians 4:21-31, Paul writes about the story of Sarah. Although Sarah was barren and beyond her childbearing years, God promised Abraham that she would give birth to his son. When Sarah considered her current situation, she doubted her ability to become pregnant. She feared that she would not fulfill her purpose. By her own will and not God’s, she allowed Abraham to marry and have a son with her slave Hagar. blog post quote the freedom to create

God was still faithful. Sarah, a free woman, became pregnant and gave birth to the promised son. Because this child was created in God’s will, he received Abraham’s inheritance and God established His everlasting covenant with him. The child that Sarah forced Hagar to create in bondage received neither of these things.

We too can be like Sarah. Sometimes we doubt the creative gifts God has given us and try to bring our own dreams to fruition. Other times we cave into the pressure to do what is conventional and completely neglect our gifts.

God is faithful to do exactly what He says in spite of our current situation. We must learn to trust God’s timing and follow His instructions in order to create in the freedom of Jesus Christ. When we create as free women, we receive everything that God has for us.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for blessing me with the freedom to create. Help me to reject fear, the opinions of others, and even my own desires so that I may use my gifts to glorify You. Through Christ I can do everything you have purposed me to do. In Jesus name, Amen!
